Understanding Inheritance

Genetics and Epigenetic dysregulation of disease processes

Epigenetics are stable heritable traits that are not explained by changes in DNA sequence. The Greek prefix epi- in epigenetics means "outside of" and implies features that are in addition to the traditional genetic basis for inheritance and stably regulate expression of genes. This new branch of research looks for epigenetic mechanisms and factors which play a role in the development of disease and might be used therapeutically.
